Hey, just a reminder to everyone out there how astropottomously awesome Michal is. She is nothing less than a 10.0 on the Richter scale, and her outrageous awesomeness is overshadowed only by how much her friends adore her. Oh my God, if they discovered a new planet, that was better and more awesome than all the others, they should name it Michal. Michal! Michal!!!! Michal!!!!!!!! Hoo-ray for Michal!

Oh man, what a strange and turbulent evening. I got a few pictures of the first hour or so, but so much more of the story remains undocumented...

Hmm. Even if I could describe this, I don't think I'd want to. A night of 80s, of reveling, of AOL CDs, of...dog. Thanks to Paula for (most of) the camerawork, and to Tom for causing me endless amusement (unbeknowest to him). And to Sean's friend Jon, for making me not the dumbest one there.

If you don't know this story, it cannot be adequately explained...but I'll try.
About three weeks ago, just before the camping trip, Jordan came up with an absurd joke which consisted of repeating "going to the beach" over and over, nonsensically. This joke had come up occasionally since then, with no consequences good or bad. Until last Sunday.
Hanging out at Seth's house, we got, well, bored. It might have been I who began the "goin' to the beach" chant, I don't really remember. That's unimportant. We gleft Seth's house and got into Sean's car and--here comes the unprecidented part--started driving. Little did we know that, a mere two hours and fifteen minutes later, we would, in fact, be at the proverbial beach. Once Sean timidly posed to us "um...which way to the beach?" the matter was settled. We started for the bay bridge, stopping at Wawa for those urine-flavored caffeine drinks and a disposable camera (hence the poor quality of these pictures). The rest is basically documented here. Except for the terrible, frazzled, borderline-homicidal ride home.

Here's our first summer excursion with the whole group back together again. I seemed to enjoy taking pictures of before we left more than of the trip itself.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club/Rapture Show
|
 |
|
We were in the tall people section for some reason.

What's that about me winning the indie-rock show contest, Paula? I think I should start wearing my collar up I'm so motherfucking hip. This concert rocked so much I only had time to take two pictures (you know, because of all the rocking out). I was there with ol' Josh Roth et. al., as well as my good Shrimp friend Christina. But listen to this story:
So I'm waiting outside in the rain for the Syracuse kids to get to the venue, by myself. This hip guy comes up to me and asks for a light. We start to talk, and he asks "So who are you here to see, the Rapture?"
I said, "Yeah, the Rapture. I don't really know much Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. How about you, who are you here to see?"
"Umm...I'm the drummer for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club."
How awkward. I stammer, "Ah........my friend just lent* me your new album, I haven't had a listen yet."
[* The was only partially a lie. I didn't want to tell him that just that day I had stolen both of his albums off of the Cornell DC++ hub. However, the hub is run by a friend of mine, so in a way, my statement was true. My friend did...lend it to me.]
It wasn't all that awkward, really. He was a nice fellow, and he had almost just gotten arrested in the gym for trying to use our showers for free, apparently. The tour had just come from Baltimore, so I could actually talk about music venues like I knew my shit ("The Recher? Oh yeah, that's a great place. You say the Black Cat? You know, the D.C. music scene is blahblahbullshitbullshit"). Anyway, the moral of the story is to not drop your shit. And also to see the Rapture when they come to your town, because they are twat.

So on Sunday I went to the Decemberists show, which was amazing. See them live, no matter the cost. Don't even bother with their albums. Just see them live.
